JPC Aquatics Program

About John Paul College Aquatics
The John Paul College Aquatics Swimming Club (JPCA) is a competitive swim program that provides training opportunities throughout the entire swimming season including school holidays. Members include swimmers from John Paul College as well as from the local community.

The JPCA is affiliated with Swimming Australia through its affiliation with Swimming Queensland and Brisbane Swimming Association. To ensure the swimmers receive the appropriate training, they are grouped into squads, according to age and ability. Our nationally accredited professional coaches implement a structured training program, designed to improve the performance of each swimmer in preparation for their participation in the major annual swimming meets. All ability levels compete at Brisbane, Queensland and Australian competitions. JPCA also provides a program for adult or masters swimmers.

Our members and families understand that swimming is one of the few sports that athletes can practice and compete in all year-round. Individuals experience both highs and lows on their journey to accomplishing their goals in this great sport, and in this respect, swimming is one of the few sports that emulate of life. JPCA recognizes this fact, and therefore, has as a primary goal; “To challenge young people to excel in life by achieving their full potential in competitive swimming”.

Our swimming program is ranked in Top 30% clubs nationally!

In 2010 John Paul College Aquatics received a coaching award from the Swimming Australia for achieving Top 30% rankings in the National Junior Excellence Program.

JPCA Competitive Squads
JPCA currently offers three squad levels. Swimmers are grouped according to their age and ability. All ability levels as a part of the JPCA team compete at local, state and national competition in accordance with the Team Targeted Meets Schedule (click here to see the schedule). Squads are run every morning and afternoon, Monday to Saturday at the state-of-the-art 10-lane John Paul College Stephen Paul Aquatic Centre. Swimmers also have access to a fully equipped gymnasium and exercise area.

For current squad training timetable please click here.

Development Squad: Swimmers progress to this group from our JPCA Stroke School’s Mini-Squad and begin training for competition. Fundamentals of training and racing are introduced. Swimmers learn how to read a pace clock. Learning to work hard while having fun is another key concept of this group.  Swimmers are encouraged to achieve Brisbane Championships qualifying times.

Junior Squad:  Advanced age group training for swimmers 9-12 y.o. Swimmers are introduced to a more advanced swimming regimen, a higher level of competition, and continued improvement of stroke mechanics. Training is for a minimum of 5 times per week to maintain an aerobic base to progress to national level in the future. Swimmers are encouraged to achieve Queensland Championships qualifying times to progress to the State squad.

State Squad: This group of 11-18 y.o. athletes trains eight times per week on the program geared toward state and national level competitions. Stroke technique and championship racing skills are practiced and refined. Includes advanced dry land program working with medicine balls, core body strength and resistance training. Swimmers are encouraged to train twice a day on a regular basis.
