The Position:

As a member of the boarding staff, the Boarding House Parent is expected to work as part of a team which contributes to the life and running of the boarding house.

The Boarding House Parent is expected to be interested in the students and to keep their welfare in mind at all times.

While a major responsibility lies in the efficient administrative functioning of the boarding house, their other equally important role is to be found in the area of pastoral care. The Boarding House Parent act as the “parent away from home”.

The Candidate:

A Boarding House Parent will aim to develop within the Boarding Village a spirit and character that is friendly and supportive, which recognises the worth of each student as an individual and creates a sense of belonging for all resident students in accordance with the College Ethos.

Applicants must have an understanding of the ethos and expectations that accompany one of Australia’s leading independent schools.

Passionate about boarders and boarding, the ideal candidate is warm and compassionate while upholding standards, values and impeccable conduct for the students in their care.

The Fenton Boarding Village:

The Fenton Boarding Village is located on land adjacent to the main campus of John Paul College, and is a bushland setting adjoining the College’s sporting fields.  This fully refurbished village-style accommodation houses 52 students from Years Seven-Twelve.

It is unique to the region, being co-educational, boutique and catering for students from diverse backgrounds, including: domestic, international and indigenous.  The facility is routinely hired out during vacational periods to suitable external groups.

Selection Criteria:

Applicants for the role of Boarding House Parent will be assessed against the following criteria:

  • 3+ years experience with boarding.
  • Bachelor’s Degree from a recognised university in education, nursing or social work is desirable.
  • Current Senior First Aid certificate
  • Positive notice Working with Children check (Blue card)
  • Open Manual drivers licence.
  • Advanced skills in all Microsoft applications and the ability to learn new systems in a timely manner.
  • Excellent oral and written communication.
  • Willingness to support the College’s core values.

Applicants must be prepared to model and maintain the Christian ecumenical ethos, values and beliefs of the College.

Remuneration for the Boarding House Parent will be commensurate with the experience the successful applicant brings to the position.
