While our Years 7 and 8 students complete the second of their Design Challenge Days (we can’t wait to share their culminating ideas) and our Year 1 students were busy going back in time, our Year 6 students commenced their PYP (Primary Years Programme) Exhibition journey.
From games of knuckles, jump rope, hopscotch and pick-up sticks to marbles, slate writing and quoits, our Year 1 students went back in time today. ‘Back in Time’ day was organised as the culminating activity of students’ current Unit of Inquiry, ‘Where we are in place and time’.
On Friday, we celebrated the academic success of the first semester of our Secondary School students at the 11th Annual John Paul College Cum Laude and Pro Diligentia Awards Ceremony. These annual awards inspire in our learners, the dedication to achieve and maintain academic excellence.
You know you belong to a great school community when its past students give back so readily. Early this morning, we welcomed 20 alumni back on campus for our ‘Meet a Mentor’ event. Held before school, this event was designed especially for our Year 10 students (and other interested Senior students) in the lead up to their subject selections for Years 11 and 12. Students received valuable insight into future career options and gained some great career and life perspectives from leaders in their fields.
At our Inter-House Athletics Carnival yesterday, despite the windy conditions, our students performed outstandingly, with a large number of records broken. Congratulations to all record breakers and age champions.
On behalf of the John Paul College Board, I am delighted to advise that Mrs Karen Spiller has been appointed as the next Head of John Paul College, commencing in term one, 2018. Mrs Spiller is an experienced Principal having taught and led in Anglican co-educational and girls’ schools for over thirty years.
The Years 3 – 6 Interhouse Athletics Carnival took place at Cec Munns Sports Centre on Tuesday 6th and Wednesday 7th June. With beautiful weather, our students competed with great house pride across the two days with many notable performances and outstanding house spirit evident.
This week we recognise National Reconciliation Week , commencing with National Sorry Day last Friday, and concluding this Friday with Mabo Day. Each year National Reconciliation Week (NRW) celebrates and builds on the respectful relationships shared by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and other Australians. The theme for NRW2017 is ‘Let’s Take the Next Steps’.
