Primary Camps
The JPC camping program enables students to further their learning and social skills development in a non-school setting. Camps have a cultural, environmental or outdoor emphasis and are an important aspect of our Academic Welfare Program as well as complementing the educational programs offered in PYP.
Year 4 Camp (Tamborine QCCC Centre - Term 3)
| The Year 4 Camp supports and supplements the holistic education that the students undertake at school. The camp is used to support and complement the students’ skills and attitudes within the PYP, through engaging in activities such as the Adventure Challenge. It links with the Academic Welfare Program, developing independence and providing challenge outside the classroom setting.
The camp program planned for the students is extensive, enabling them to further develop the Learner Profile attributes in a new environment. They participate in a variety of tasks requiring the use of physical and critical-thinking skills, both independently and collaboratively. The range of activities includes archery, team building, environmental and high rope activities, as well as activities designed to challenge the students and build independence and resilience.
All activities are supervised by the Year 4 class teachers, along with other John Paul College staff and specialist instructors provided by the camp.

Year 6 Canberra Tour (Term 1)
| The Year 6 Canberra Tour is a three-day tour and is a culmination to the Leadership inquiry unit, timely for the Year 6 students as leaders of the Primary School. The Canberra Tour is an integral element to student learning
and the Australian Curriculum for Year Six students.
From Parliament House to the Royal Mint, the Australian War Memorial to the Electoral Education Centre and the Australian Institute of Sport to the National Museum, students experience it all. The chance to learn first-hand how our country is run and how government works enables classroom learning to come alive. Highlights include experiences like listening to the Leader of the Opposition or the Prime Minister speak in the House of Representatives, role-playing the passing of a bill in Parliament House, staging a mock federal election at Old Parliament House, taking a moment to reflect at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, testing our sporting skills at the AIS and getting hands-on with science at Questacon.
Students gain a greater understanding of how our country is governed and their own responsibility in ensuring that they take an active part in the decision-making on behalf of our communities and our nation. They also create some long-lasting memories of their time in Canberra. |
