Outstanding Performing Arts Program
Our School of Performing Arts has a far-reaching reputation for the outstanding professionalism of our productions and performances.
Our comprehensive performance program is dedicated to excellence. Through ensembles, rock bands, choirs, cheerleading and dance companies we nurture talents, practise to perfection and create unforgettable experiences for every student in our Primary School.
The program offers many solo opportunities, small ensemble and large event performances. Our Primary students are proud to showcase the skills they have developed as they flourish in the performing arts.
The core of the School of Performing Arts is the tuition program where students from Prep to Year Six have the opportunity to participate in group and private instrumental, vocal and dance lessons on a weekly basis. This is supported by an extensive co-curricular program catering for Prep to Year Six students including bands, choirs, cheerleading, dance and drama groups.
All activities, lessons and rehearsals are held in state-of-the-art facilities including classrooms, individual rehearsal studios, a theatre and dance studio.
Band and String Co-curricular Program
Students from Years Two to Six have the opportunity to be involved in the ensemble-based Performance Program. Instrumental ensemble opportunities include concert bands, jazz bands, string orchestra, string, woodwind and guitar ensembles and rock bands.
Students in Years Two to Three, are invited to join the beginner string program and students in Year Four are invited to join the beginner band program. Students in these programs receive an instrument, group tuition and book packs for their year long enrolment in the program.
Student involvement in the instrumental performance program is focussed on participation in performance groups and is supported by enrolment in either group or private instrumental tuition with specialist teachers. Auditions are held at the end of each year for placement into instrumental ensembles. Student participation in performance programs requires a full year commitment.
Choral and Vocal Program
The Choral Program provides all students with a positive choral experience. From the youngest and most inexperienced singer in the Primary School, through to highly accomplished and well-trained performers in Year Twelve, students are able to be part of a progressive choral program that caters for vocalists of all levels.
These choral ensembles include Primary choirs for students in Prep to Year Six. The vocal program provides students from Year Five with the opportunity to undertake private tuition with a specialist vocal teacher. For students to be eligible to enrol in vocal tuition, they must be a current member of a JPC choir. Student participation in the choral and vocal programs requires a full year commitment.
Cheer Program
Students in Years One to Six have the opportunity to participate in the Cheer Program. Cheer is a full year co-curricular and students audition each year for group placement. The number of groups changes annually based on the enrolment of students. Students must attend weekly training sessions and compete at nominated cheer competitions throughout the year.
Students learn fundamental skills in stunting, tumbling and cheer performance and perform at school events and competitions throughout the year. A number of groups are available throughout the program catering for a beginner (Level 1) to advanced students (Level 4/5). Cheerleaders are encouraged to develop their skills following cheerleading safety progressions in order to maximise the memory of movement required for cheerleading tumbling and stunting.
Dance Program
Students in Years One - Six have the opportunity to participate in the Dance Program. Dance is a full year co-curricular and students may be placed into different groups each year based on auditions at the end of each year. The number of groups changes annually based on the enrolment of students.
Students are exposed to a range of dance genres such as Jazz, Hip Hop and Contemporary and are given performance opportunities at school events and at competitions. A number of groups are available throughout the program catering for beginner through to advanced students. Students are encouraged to develop their performance, personal style and dance technique.
Drama Program
The Primary Speech & Drama Club (Years Four to Six) provides young people with the chance to explore new directions and various styles in theatre, through both performance and workshop programs. In addition, it seeks to fully develop the dramatic talent, skills and abilities of students.
Members of the Primary Speech & Drama Club perform during the year and are encouraged to audition for College performances. Student participation in the Primary Speech and Drama Club requires a full year commitment.
