"Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still; teach the righteous and they will add to their learning." - Proverbs 9:9
Recently, we were proud to share the announcement of our Class of 2026 Student Leadership Team. It is an occasion like this where we are invited to reflect on what leadership means to each of us. My congratulations to all the students who engaged in the leadership process. I commend and admire your courage.
It takes courage to put your hand up to be considered, it takes courage to continue engaging with the process, and it takes courage to face the uncertainty of the outcome and the fact that some will be unsuccessful. It takes courage to face this uncertainty. There are a finite number of positions available, and unfortunately, people will be disappointed. We have all experienced the distaste of not being appointed to a team or a position we dreamed of, but don't allow the disappointment to define you or your year.
In the world of rugby, few rivalries are as storied and intense as that between the All Blacks and the Wallabies. These two powerhouses of the Southern Hemisphere have clashed for over a century, not just in pursuit of victory, but in a relentless quest for excellence. Beyond the bruising tackles and breathtaking tries, their rivalry offers profound insights into leadership, on and off the field. I think it is worth sharing during this announcement for our student leaders, as I am aware of the emotional journey that all students who bravely aspire to these formal leadership positions undertake.
Both teams understand that they are temporary custodians of a legacy. Players often speak of leaving the jersey in a better place, a mindset that transcends individual ambition. Leaders think long-term. They act not just for today's results, but for tomorrow's impact.
Congratulations to the new student leaders and all our students who aspired to a leadership position. We thank you for the courage you have displayed in embarking on this journey, experiencing the emotions associated with the outcome, but don't allow them to define you.
I encourage our community to maintain the courage, to continue dreaming and to continue demonstrating your leadership each and every day.
We are honoured to announce the Student Leadership Team who will lead JPC into 2026. Students will commence their official duties from the beginning of Term 3 in tandem with the current Class of 2025 College Captains. Congratulations to you all on this amazing achievement!
