In August, we were thrilled to share the exciting news with our JPC families about our students' exceptional performance in the 2024 NAPLAN assessments. The results, as reported by the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority, showcase our students' outstanding achievements in reading, writing and numeracy.
Our JPC families of students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 received their child/ren’s NAPLAN report for 2024. NAPLAN is a point-in-time snapshot of our students; however, the importance of the data lies in how we can track progress over time. JPC uses the information to review how our students are progressing, and we are looking for growth over time, as education is all about growth.
This is the second year NAPLAN results have been reported against proficiency standards. These standards are designed to reflect the challenging yet achievable expectations for students at the time of testing. The proficiency levels are as follows:
- Exceeding: The student’s result surpasses expectations.
- Strong: The student’s result meets challenging yet reasonable expectations.
- Developing: The student’s result shows progress towards expectations.
- Needs Additional Support: The student’s result indicates further support to meet expected learning outcomes.
It is important to note that the results from 2023 onwards cannot be directly compared with those from previous years due to the new measurement scale and the shift to online testing.
We proudly report that our students have demonstrated exceptional competence in all assessment areas, significantly surpassing the state average. This remarkable achievement reflects the hard work, dedication and unwavering commitment of our talented teaching staff.
Our success is rooted in our focus on intentional teaching and targeted intervention strategies. The quality of our teaching practices, led by our Deans of Academic Welfare, Administration, Pedagogy, and Studies and our Deputy Principals – Head of Primary and Secondary Schools, ensures that every student receives the support they need to excel.
At John Paul College, our purpose is clear: To Educate, To Inspire, To Make a Difference. Our outstanding NAPLAN results are a clear manifestation of our belief in the potential of our students and a testament to our dedication to providing the best possible educational experience.
Looking ahead, we remain committed to academic excellence and the holistic development of each student. We will continue to innovate and adapt, ensuring that our school remains at the forefront of educational practices and provides a nurturing environment where every child can thrive.
With much pride, I share with you the 2024 NAPLAN data for Years 3, 5, 7 and 9.
Congratulations to all – keep up the hard work!
