ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF COUNTRY The John Paul College community acknowledges the traditional custodians, the Yugambeh and Yuggera peoples, whose cultures and customs have nurtured the land on which we live, learn, play and work. We pay respect to Elders past and present, for they hold the memories, traditions, culture and hopes of First Nations peoples, inspiring our commitment to sustainability and innovation. This vibrant Australian Indigenous artwork, by renowned artist Jennifer Kent, intricately captures the essence of the Logan landscape, with John Paul College at its heart. Symbolising the College’s central role within the community, it is surrounded by beautifully rendered undulating hills. Their curves flow across the canvas in natural, sweeping arcs, evoking the rolling terrain. Traditional Indigenous motifs elegantly represent the nearby M1, tracing its route across the land and connecting places and people. The Logan River and its estuaries flow through the piece, signifying the region’s vital waterways. The use of burgundy and blue pays homage to the land’s deep cultural significance, creating a harmonious blend of past, present and future. Artist: Jennifer Kent

At John Paul College, we believe that student wellbeing is the foundation of academic success. Our Academic Welfare Program supports the development of the whole student – academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually through a structured, evidence-based approach grounded in positive psychology and personal growth. Our program is built on a developmental framework that is age-appropriate and responsive to the evolving needs of our students from Kindergarten to Year 12. Drawing on the Australian Curriculum’s Personal and Social Capabilities and the Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning (CASEL) model, we nurture students’ ability to build resilience, develop healthy relationships, lead with purpose and cultivate strategies that enhance learning. We combine proactive and targeted strategies to nurture self-awareness, confidence and goal setting. Wellbeing is not treated as an adjunct to learning but embedded within our curriculum and pastoral systems. Through intentional opportunities, such as leadership development, reflection sessions, peer mentoring and co-curricular engagement, students build character, foster social connections and develop a deep sense of belonging. Our dedicated Academic Welfare Deans in Primary and Secondary oversee a whole-school commitment to holistic care. Student progress is monitored through multiple touchpoints, including teacher observations, academic tracking, wellbeing surveys and developmental frameworks such as DARTS and Flourishing Surveys. This data-informed approach enables early intervention and personalised support. The program draws on contemporary research, including Martin Seligman’s Positive Psychology theory and Australian peer support studies, offering students tools to navigate complexity with optimism and agency. From daily interactions to structured wellbeing lessons, we intentionally foster a culture where students feel seen, supported and celebrated. At John Paul College, our Academic Welfare Program is not just a framework; it is a lived experience, ensuring that every learner is equipped to flourish both at school and beyond. At John Paul College, House spirit is a defining part of student life. Whether you bleed blue for Gilmour, turn green for Doulin, get energetic with Enright or strive to be the best in Burke, House pride runs deep, often lasting well beyond graduation. Originally, the College Houses were named after ancient cities in Israel: Cana, Bethel, Galilee and Nazareth. In 1987, they were renamed to honour the visionary clergy who founded the College: Father Leo Burke, Reverend Patrick Doulin, Father Rollo Enright and Reverend Bryan Gilmour. These men courageously championed the creation of Queensland’s first Christian Ecumenical College, open to all denominations. Today, each House is represented by an Indigenous Australian animal mascot, reflecting strength, spirit and a deep connection to Country. At John Paul College, Early Learning celebrates the wonder of childhood and lays the foundation for a lifelong love of learning. Within our nurturing and purpose-built Early Learning Precinct, we foster the natural curiosity of young minds through a rich, play-based environment that encourages exploration, imagination and connection. From six weeks of age, children begin their journey in our Early Learning Centre before progressing to Kindergarten and seamlessly transitioning into our Primary School. Our state-of-the-art facilities, set within the heart of the Primary School Precinct, support every stage of early development in a safe, secure and inspiring environment. Early Learning Early Learning Centre and Kindergarten Inspiring Wonder and Discovery through Play and Inquiry Our Early Learning experience is more than just preparation for school; it is the beginning of becoming confident, compassionate and capable learners, ready to thrive in a complex and connected world.

We believe children are capable and creative co-constructors of their own learning. Guided by caring and skilled educators, students are encouraged to take risks, collaborate and express themselves in meaningful ways. Our programs are responsive to each child’s unique ideas and interests, promoting autonomy, inquiry and joyful discovery. In Kindergarten, children build confidence as individuals and team members through collaborative learning experiences. Our educators nurture respectful relationships, celebrate peer achievement and provide opportunities for purposeful play that sparks critical and creative thinking. Our curriculum, rated as exceeding the National Quality Standard, is grounded in the Belonging, Being and Becoming: The Early Years Learning Framework for Australia and the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline. Inspired by the Reggio Emilia Approach, we create environments where children feel seen, heard and valued. As an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, we implement the Primary Years Programme (PYP) from the early years, developing the whole child through a transdisciplinary, concept-based curriculum. Kindergarten students begin to make meaningful connections between disciplines, cultivating enduring understandings that continue to grow throughout their educational journey.

At John Paul College, the early years of Primary School are a time of exploration, growth and foundational learning. From Prep to Year 3, we immerse our students in a learning environment that nurtures their natural curiosity and encourages them to see the world as a place of wonder and possibility. As an International Baccalaureate (IB) School, our implementation of the Primary Years Programme (PYP) ensures that learning is meaningful, connected and child-centred. Junior Primary Prep to Year 3 Igniting Curiosity and Building Foundations through the PYP The foundational years of Primary School mark the beginning of a lifelong learning journey, where curiosity is nurtured, learning is celebrated and each child is empowered to grow in confidence, resilience and character.

We believe that every child is capable and unique, and our teaching approach balances structured instruction in key areas, particularly literacy and numeracy, with rich, inquiry-based learning that sparks curiosity and deep thinking. Students ask questions, investigate ideas and build their own understanding. From their earliest years, they develop essential 21st-century skills such as critical thinking, collaboration and creativity. In our Prep to Year 3 classrooms, students grow into confident communicators, developing their social emotional capabilities alongside strong academic foundations. Learning is framed around relevant, real-world contexts that foster engagement and promote deep understanding. Our teachers cultivate caring, connected classroom communities where every student feels safe, valued and supported. Our youngest learners in the Primary School are introduced to the PYP’s key elements – concepts, skills, attitudes, action and knowledge – which help them make sense of the world and understanding their role within it. They begin to identify as inquirers, thinkers and caring citizens, laying a strong foundation for future learning and global awareness.

In Years 4 to 6 at John Paul College, students take significant steps in deepening their understanding of themselves and the world around them. As part of our Primary Years Programme (PYP), learners continue to investigate concepts through inquiry, building on the strong groundwork established during their foundation years of Primary school. With growing responsibility and independence, they are inspired to think critically, collaborate effectively and take ownership of their learning. Our curriculum aligns with the Australian Curriculum while being enriched by the PYP’s globally-minded framework. We encourage students to think critically, communicate effectively and work collaboratively across all areas of study. Senior Primary Years 4 to 6 Expanding Horizons and Deepening Inquiry through the PYP The upper Primary years are a time for developing confident, thoughtful and capable young leaders, equipped with the values and skills they need to flourish in Secondary schooling.

These years are a time of expanding horizons, where learners begin to connect ideas across disciplines and apply their knowledge to real-world contexts. Through explicit instruction paired with inquirybased learning, students develop a strong command of core academic skills, while also engaging in transdisciplinary investigations that cultivate problem-solving, innovation and ethical decision-making. Classrooms are vibrant, supportive spaces which students are challenged to question, reflect and act. Wellbeing continues to be a central focus in Years 4 to 6. We know that young learners thrive in environments where they feel known and cared for. Our teaching team fosters strong relationships with students and families to ensure each child is supported academically, socially and emotionally. As learners gain confidence, they also grow in resilience and responsibility. These upper Primary years culminate in greater student agency. Learners take increasing ownership of their progress, set learning goals and reflect on the impact of their choices and actions. Through the Year 5 Market Day and the Year 6 PYP Exhibition, students collaboratively investigate an issue of personal relevance, showcasing their growth as independent, globally aware learners.

Junior Secondary Years 7 to 10 Foundations for Future Success Secondary School marks a pivotal stage in a student’s development, where curiosity is deepened, independence is nurtured, and potential begins to translate into purpose. These years are defined by meaningful exploration, growing self-direction and the formation of personal identity. It is a time when students begin to apply their learning in more complex, authentic contexts, laying the groundwork for informed choices and future aspirations.

Years 7 to 10 mark an exciting and transformative chapter in our students’ educational journey. Supported by a nurturing and inclusive learning community, we open doors for students to explore new interests, challenge themselves academically and develop a deep sense of self-awareness and responsibility. These are the crucial years where learners transition from childhood to adolescence, and our holistic approach is designed to support both their academic and personal growth. Our engaging curriculum is broad, flexible and designed to nurture curiosity and confidence. Passionate educators teach each subject with a deep understanding of differentiation and student voice, creating meaningful and challenging learning opportunities for every learner. Cross-curricular links to innovation, sustainability and real-world problem-solving stimulate students to think critically and creatively, while our focus on reflective practice helps them take ownership of their learning journey. Beyond the classroom, students are immersed in a wide variety of co-curricular, service and leadership opportunities. These activities help foster resilience, collaboration and empathy – essential qualities for active and informed global citizens. Our facilities and support services further enrich the experience, ensuring that each student feels known, valued and equipped to succeed. Digital technologies and future-focused learning strategies are seamlessly integrated into our programs, enabling students to develop digital fluency and adapt confidently in an ever-evolving world. Through group projects, student-led initiatives and hands-on inquiry-based learning, we challenge our students to pursue their passions and actively shape their unique pathways.

Years 11 and 12 represent the pinnacle of the Secondary School journey, a time when students are empowered to take ownership of their future and build a meaningful bridge between school and life beyond. We champion our students to set ambitious goals, pursue their passions and refine the skills that will serve them well in a dynamic, global landscape. At the heart of our senior phase is flexibility. Students can customise their learning experience from a comprehensive suite of general subjects and Vocational Education and Training (VET) certificates. Whether working toward a Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE), achieving a high ATAR for tertiary entrance, or completing a Certificate III in their field of interest, each student pursues a pathway tailored to their strengths, interests and aspirations. Senior Secondary Years 11 to 12 Pathways to Excellence Years 11 and 12 are not just a conclusion, they are a launchpad for inspired futures. Our students graduate ready to thrive, equipped with the capability, character and courage to pursue excellence.
