Master Plan 2025-2040

MASTER PLAN 2025 - 2040

Our ambitious Master Plan marks the beginning of a new era of growth for John Paul College (JPC), reaffirming our commitment to providing world-class teaching and learning environments that benefit our entire JPC community. At its heart, the plan is about renewal and transformation, creating an inspiring environment that supports our staff, engages our families and enriches the student experience from the early years through to graduation. The original Master Plan, launched in 2019, was shaped through extensive consultation with staff, parents, students, board members and expert consultants, commissioned through Deicke Richards Architects. This collaborative process produced a visionary roadmap for the College’s future, one that balances innovation with the preservation of our cherished natural surroundings. Since then, we have brought key elements of that vision to life. The opening of the Jukambi Sports Precinct marks a landmark achievement, transforming the evolving sports and community life at JPC. We have also delivered a range of improvements across the campus, including new classrooms, refurbished Junior Secondary science laboratories, upgrades to the Gorman and Coleman Centres, car park redevelopments and flexible learning spaces designed to enhance safety, environmental stewardship and wellbeing. As we embark on the next stage of our Master Plan, we do so with renewed purpose and a deep sense of community spirit. This updated plan reflects our evolving aspirations and identifies new facilities that will further enhance the JPC experience. Key projects include the Burragunn building (currently under construction), the Cec Munns Sports Centre upgrade, a state-of-the-art Performing Arts Centre, a new Science and Visual Arts building, a revitalised Campus Heart, a new Senior Primary Precinct, a Year 7 Precinct and an expanded Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) facility. Further enhancements, including refurbished Administration Offices, an expanded Early Learning Centre, an expanded Coleman Centre, learn-to-swim facility and a renovated canteen, will ensure JPC continues to evolve as a safe, connected and inspiring environment for all. On behalf of the Board, we look to the future with optimism and confidence, building a sustainable environment for future generations of learners. Mr Ben O’Bree Board Chair, John Paul College FACILITIES MASTER PLANNING ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF COUNTRY The John Paul College community acknowledges the traditional custodians, the Yugambeh and Yuggera peoples, whose cultures and customs have nurtured the land on which we live, learn, play and work. We pay respect to Elders past and present, for they hold the memories, traditions, culture and hopes of First Nations peoples, inspiring our commitment to sustainability and innovation.

Based on feedback from our community, we have reviewed and reshaped the John Paul College Master Plan to ensure it reflects our strategic aspirations to Ignite ambition. and bring our Bold Strategic Goals to life. More than a blueprint for development, the Master Plan is a living vision that shapes environments that inspire learning, champion sustainability and uphold the ongoing excellence of our facilities for generations to come. In alignment with Bold Strategic Goal 8 – Exceptional Facilities, the plan ensures our physical spaces reflect the high standards of a leading, yet moderate-fee, independent school. Every project is guided by quality, value and purpose, ensuring our facilities not only support growth but also enrich the experience of every student, educator and visitor to our campus. Equally, Bold Strategic Goal 4 – Learning Environments sits at the heart of this vision. From the new Burragunn building and the planned Performing Arts Centre to purpose-designed precincts for Primary and Secondary students, each development creates a dynamic, inclusive and future-focused environment that supports creativity, collaboration and academic excellence. These facilities will empower staff to deliver world-class teaching and strengthen our culture of engagement and innovation. Underpinning all that we build is Bold Strategic Goal 1 – Sustainability. Our commitment to responsible environmental stewardship drives every decision, from energy-efficient design and the use of sustainable materials to the preservation of our natural surroundings. Through this next phase of development, John Paul College continues to strengthen its foundation as a place where Unity | Christ | Learning converges. With purpose and care, we are building not just for today, but for the generations who will follow, a College that ignites ambition and empowers students to courageously enrich society. Set to open in 2027, Burragunn is a state-of-theart Secondary learning centre that will replace the iconic Boomerang Building, named after the Yugambeh word for ‘boomerang’. Honouring the past while shaping the future, Burragunn will feature 16 general learning spaces, two expansive learning commons, hospitality and home economics kitchens, meeting areas, an events space and an outdoor amphitheatre. Designed to foster creativity, collaboration and academic excellence, Burragunn will offer flexible, future-focused spaces that support both independent and group learning. Inspired by the natural landscape, the building embodies the College’s commitment to contemporary education, sustainability and wellbeing. More than just a facility, Burragunn represents a significant investment in the next generation, where tradition meets innovation and every student is empowered to thrive. Burragunn

The Cec Munns Sports Centre refurbishment will deliver significant upgrades to enhance both inclusivity and functionality. The grandstand pavilion will be renovated to include additional male and female change facilities, while existing amenities will undergo a full modernisation. This muchneeded upgrade will expand the College’s capacity for both home and away teams, supporting equitable access for all athletes. The project also includes the resurfacing of the Cec Munns Sports Centre car park, improving safety, accessibility and traffic flow for students, staff and visitors. Scheduled for completion in 2026, these enhancements strengthen JPC’s commitment to providing outstanding, inclusive sporting environments. Cec Munns Sports Centre

To support the continued growth and excellence of the Performing Arts program, John Paul College is planning a new, purpose-built Performing Arts Centre. This contemporary facility will feature a high-quality theatre with dedicated backstage areas, rehearsal studios, instrument storage and a professional recording space. A spacious foyer and box office will be located at the front of Coleman Plaza and Markwell Car Park, with proposed lift and stair access to Cameron Lawns, ensuring seamless connectivity across the campus. More than a performance venue, the new Performing Arts Centre will serve as an energetic hub for learning and culture, supporting both curricular and co-curricular programs, nurturing creativity and encouraging collaboration. It will stand as a cultural hub where creativity is celebrated and students’ artistic achievements inspire future generations. NEW CAMPUS HEART At the centre of the John Paul College campus, a new Campus Heart will create a vital focal point for social connection, wellbeing and community life. Designed as a welcoming and inclusive space, it will encourage students and staff to gather, reflect and connect throughout the day. The heart will symbolise Unity | Christ | Learning, offering a calming environment that supports both emotional and social wellbeing, while nurturing a strong sense of belonging. Directly connected to the new Health and Wellness Centre, the Campus Heart will provide seamless access to shared support services, including counselling, chaplaincy, nursing and Techsphere, ensuring that holistic wellbeing and academic support are readily available to both Primary and Secondary students. Surrounded by key precincts such as Secondary Administration, Burragunn, Wellbeing Services and the Jukambi Sports Precinct, the Campus Heart will link to all major facilities through landscaped pathways and inviting social zones, designed to promote wellbeing, belonging, creativity and collaboration. NEW PERFORMING ARTS CENTRE

NEW SENIOR PRIMARY SCHOOL PRECINCT The next stage of the Master Plan will see the transformation of the Primary School through the creation of two distinctive learning precincts, thoughtfully connected to the campus’s natural landscape. With the Drake Building reaching the end of its life and the Wesley buildings being thoughtfully repurposed, a new Senior Primary Precinct will emerge for Years 3 to 6, designed to inspire independence, collaboration and curiosity as students prepare for Secondary School. The existing Primary School facilities will be revitalised to form a dedicated Junior Primary Precinct for Prep to Year 2, offering nurturing, play-based spaces that support early learning and development. Both precincts will bridge indoor and outdoor, private and public spaces, forming a seamless “connective tissue” that promotes learning, wellbeing and community relationships. Together, they will create an integrated environment where curiosity, creativity and nature are intertwined at every stage of learning. NEW YEAR 7 PRECINCT The introduction of a dedicated Year 7 Precinct marks an exciting step in supporting students’ transition into Secondary School. The existing Dame Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre will be reimagined as a contemporary Year 7 Precinct, featuring flexible classrooms, a lecture theatre, breakout spaces and collaborative learning areas designed to nurture curiosity, independence and integration. This revitalised space will provide a supportive environment that bridges Primary and Secondary learning experiences, ensuring a strong sense of belonging for students as they begin their Secondary journey. Positioned adjacent to the new Burragunn building, home to Years 8 and 9, the Year 7 Precinct will enable seamless interaction between year levels, fostering social connection and academic continuity.

The new Main and Primary Administration Buildings will create a welcoming, publicfacing “front door” for the College. Designed to enhance accessibility, visibility and safety, these spaces ensure all visitors are greeted and guided appropriately. By centralising entry points, the facilities strengthen public safety while reflecting the College’s commitment to excellence and community engagement. These enhancements ensure the College remains a welcoming and secure environment for all. Guided by our motto of Unity | Christ | Learning, and driven by our vision to Ignite ambition, this plan honours the past while boldly embracing the future. Together, we are creating a campus where every student can flourish, every teacher can inspire and every family can belong. NEW ADMINISTRATION BUILDINGS OUR CONTRIBUTION TO SOCIETY An unwavering commitment to educate and develop exceptional individuals who courageously enrich society. OUR MISSION To accelerate our dynamic learning community, igniting excellence in all. OUR PURPOSE Develop ethical, creative and service-oriented thinkers who thrive in a complex global environment. OUR MOTTO Unity | Christ | Learning
