The Eagle Magazine 2024

Year 4 students engaged in an exciting project that combined creativity and caring for the environment, inspired by their ‘How We Organise Ourselves’ PYP Unit of Inquiry. This unit encourages the exploration of different materials and fosters an understanding of recycling and sustainability principles. A highlight of the project was the cardboard moulding activity, where students repurposed old cardboard into something new and useful – plant pots. They started by turning the cardboard into pulp and moulding it into pots. This hands-on experience taught them about cardboard properties and demonstrated how materials can be creatively reused instead of thrown away. This activity helped students learn the significance of recycling and discover the potential of everyday materials. They saw firsthand how something as simple as used cardboard could be given a new life, fostering their creativity and innovation. It also aligned with their efforts to create new resource centres at the College and care for plants, reinforcing the importance of sustainability and responsibility. Overall, the cardboard moulding project instilled in students an appreciation for the environmental benefits of recycling and reusing materials. It teaches them valuable academic skills and encourages them to think creatively about how they can positively influence the world. From Cardboard to Creativity 34 THE EAGLE 2024
