Curiosity – Exploration – Collaboration - Learning

At JPC, our Kindergarten (Pre-Prep program) is a learning environment where all children can become confident, eager and enthusiastic learners in preparation for the rest of their education. Our children create, imagine and interact in an environment of purposeful play that is richly embedded in a foundation of literacy and numeracy.

Our experienced quality educators hold early childhood qualifications and provide an environment where children feel respected, comfortable, happy and safe. They aim to foster meaningful partnerships with parents and the community and embrace the Christian Ecumenical environment of acceptance and understanding.

Our Programs
Kindergraten (Pre-Prep)

We understand that families make decisions about their child’s Kindergarten program based on learning opportunities and outcomes. At JPC, our rich play-based learning program focuses on the development of the whole child and the successful transition to Prep. Learning is FUN! Kindergarten is a crucial year for the development of vital skills needed for school and future learning and will aim to achieve the following:

  • Develop in each child an active curiosity about the world and an enthusiasm for learning based on their own needs, interests and investigations
  • Enhancing each child’s development of social, emotional, physical, spiritual, language and cognitive development
  • Providing experiences and opportunities for children to express themselves and represent their thinking and understanding through the many different languages of expression
  • Working in partnership with parents in each child’s care and education; establishing connections and promoting continuity that recognises children’s past, present and future living and learning experiences
  • Provide facilities and resources to promote possibility and investigation in the children’s learning journey.

The Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline (QKLG) and the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) are used in collaboration to facilitate our Educational Program.

Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline (QKLG)

The QKLG embraces the vision that all children experience learning that is engaging and builds success for life.

The guideline describes a set of five learning and development areas in terms of observable behaviours. These learning and development areas related to five broad learning outcomes:

  • Children have a strong sense of identity
  • Children are connected with and contribute to their world
  • Children have a strong sense of wellbeing
  • Children are confident and involved learners
  • Children are effective communicators.
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP)

The Primary Years Programme (PYP)is integrated into the Kindergarten program and is an international framework that ensures all of our students are prepared for the global world we are part of today. PYP is about discovering and inspiring children to WONDER and to celebrate learning.

A driving force behind PYP is a deeply held philosophy about the nature of international education and the development of international-mindedness within each member of the school community.

The Kindergarten children undertake four units of enquiry including:

    • Who We Are: Mindfulness helps us to understand about ourselves and others
    • How We Organise Ourselves: Being organised helps us to learn
    • How We Express Ourselves: Materials and resources can be used to express ideas
    • How the World Works:  Curiosity drives exploration and discovery.
