Languages

In preparing our students for the future, to be international communicators and global thinkers, we believe that the development of a second language can aid our students in fostering cultural diversity and intercultural understanding.

Research demonstrates students who study a second language become better thinkers and better global citizens. Additionally, studying a second language:
  • improves academic performance
  • is good for brain development
  • helps them become masters of their native language
  • can connect them to their heritage
  • creates better cultural awareness of others
  • prepares them for life in a global community.

Students in Secondary School at JPC have the opportunity to learn Chinese and Spanish (both languages also available in Primary).

English

English is a thrilling adventure in the world of words. At JPC our English program focuses on both the skills of how language is received (through listening, reading and viewing) and how it is produced (through speaking and writing).

Our students are able to analyse how users of the English language achieve their purposes for specific audiences by making choices and using both structural and linguistic features to produce texts. In turn, students then produce texts that achieve a set purpose for a chosen audience by using similar careful linguistic and structural features.
