Teaching at JPC
At John Paul College all students are empowered to learn and achieve through a consistent and evidence-based approach to teaching and learning. We believe a common and committed approach is vital to ensuring that the learning outcomes for all students are maximised.
Our Pedagogical Framework presents a common understanding and language around learning at JPC. It makes explicit the key elements of high quality, effective teaching practice and ensures our community has a shared understanding of how teachers are expected to teach and how students can expect to learn. Through the delivery of high impact teaching practices and the gradual release of responsibility, our students are supported to develop the skills, knowledge and personal attributes to become lifelong learners.
A key aspect of our teaching practice is to help all students become assessment capable learners. Students who understand and know the learning target for a lesson, can describe where they are in relation to the success criteria, and use that information to select learning strategies to improve their work. Our teaching practice is further grounded in the belief that although students are at different stages in their learning, all students are capable of learning successfully if engaged and motivated. This is further underpinned by teachers providing students with appropriate learning opportunities and necessary support.
