Welcome to Fenton Village
I warmly welcome you to the John Paul College Boarding Village. As a Boarder at John Paul College, you will be embraced by the JPC Family, where we nurture and support you throughout your academic journey. Here, you'll find a home that fosters ambition and a path that leads to success.
Experiencing life at JPC through the life of a Boarder is a unique opportunity to embrace the many pathways and co-curricular options available while developing your character as part of a boarding cohort of peers from around the world. Your fellow boarders will help and guide you, and we expect you to extend that same camaraderie, friendship and leadership as you progress through the Boarding journey.
The supportive Boarding Staff will guide you to become an independent boarder to help you SOAR at the College. For you, life at the College should be about:
- Strong Outcomes
- Activity engagement
- Relationship building
- Interests pursuing
- Noticing, self-awareness and self-regulation
- Giving and guiding of others.
These elements of the College and Boarding make up our SOARING model and will support your flourishing as a learner as you approach young adulthood.
Like any journey, there are times when we are challenged, times when we need to reflect, times when we need to realign, times to help others in need and times to celebrate.
We look forward to guiding you on this journey and welcoming you to Fenton Village.

1.1 Boarding Policies and Procedures
Boarding is a structured accommodation environment in which students can develop and thrive. This positive environment is curated through carefully considered routines, policies and procedures. Boarding parents and community members should familiarise themselves with the following policies and procedures in particular:
1.2 Our Approach to Boarding
A Positive Psychology framework, developed by psychologist Martin Seligman, underpins the College's pastoral and academic welfare foundations. This approach to student development is reinforced through all aspects of life in boarding. The following core elements of the Positive Psychology framework provide students with real-life avenues and opportunities to demonstrate the College Values: Mutual Respect, Integrity, Compassion and Excellence.
As part of this holistic approach, students are encouraged and guided, and intrinsic motivation is cultivated to foster a culture of active citizenship and community.
1. Positive Emotion
- Activities and Events: Organisation of regular boarding events to promote stewardship and giving.
- Gratitude Practices: Encourage students to keep gratitude journals or participate in gratitude circles where they share things they are thankful for.
- Mindfulness and Relaxation: Implement mindfulness sessions and relaxation techniques to help students manage stress and cultivate positive emotions.
2. Engagement
- Extracurricular Activities: Enable students to participate in various clubs and activities (e.g., music, drama, sports, debate) to help them find and pursue their passions.
- Interactive Learning: Use real-life learning and experiential activities to keep students engaged and interested in their development.
- Flow Activities: Provide opportunities for students to engage in activities that promote a state of flow where they are fully immersed and focused.
3. Relationships
- Mentorship Programs: Facilitate mentorship programs where older students mentor younger students, fostering supportive relationships.
- Team Building: Organisation of team-building activities and group projects to strengthen bonds among students.
- Open Communication: An environment where students feel safe expressing their thoughts and feelings, promoting trust and understanding.
4. Meaning
- Community Service: Students are encouraged to participate in community service and service learning projects, which helps them find purpose and contribute to something larger than themselves.
- Personal Development Workshops: Workshops on topics like goal setting, values and personal growth to help students find meaning in their lives.
- Cultural and Religious Activities: Opportunities for students to explore and engage in cultural and religious activities that resonate with them.
- Sustainability: Opportunities for students to support the College's sustainability goals through boarding initiatives.
5. Accomplishment
- Goal Setting: Students set and achieve personal and academic goals, providing a sense of accomplishment.
- Recognition and Awards: Recognition and celebration of students' achievements through awards, certificates, and public acknowledgment.
- Skill Development: Programs and workshops that help students develop new skills and competencies, boosting their confidence and sense of achievement.
By integrating these elements into the boarding environment, we create a supportive and enriching atmosphere that promotes the wellbeing and flourishing of students.
