AEA Boarding nomination for Best Boarding School
Exciting news for JPC! We have been shortlisted for 'Boarding School of the Year' in the 2022 Australian Education Awards (AEA). The AEA awards showcase the top-performing boarding schools like JPC for the transformative work that makes a profound difference in the lives of young people across Australia and within their local communities. Our gratitude to all JPC and Fenton Village staff who do such amazing work for our boarding students; as we know, it takes a village to raise a child, and we love our village.
We asked Norm Kerley - Deputy Principal, Culture and Compliance, what makes boarding life at Fenton Village unique.
'Fenton Village is a co-educational setting allowing siblings to board together in the one College, creating convenience for families and retaining a 'family feel' within our boarding cohort.
Although a small boarding facility, Fenton Village offers a boutique villa community with eight students per villa, providing easy access to facilities such as kitchenettes and bathrooms (2 students per ensuite).
Families and students appreciate the importance of developing independence in our boarders responsible for organising their own laundry and ironing. Staff teach them these skills and support them with reminders regarding the routines. Basic cooking skills are also taught, and students can prepare their own additional snacks and maintain cleanliness in their villas.
Keep In Touch (KIT) groups are established within the cohort and represent vertical pastoral care. Older boarders are teamed with younger students at some meals and for events and activities, supported by boarding staff. The different nationalities and cultures are mixed so that within each group, they learn more about each other and share their experiences from the school day. This often leads to peer support in emotional, social, and academic matters.'
