JPC Star in the making signs with Spanish Football Club

| It's not often that a Year Ten student gets to follow their dreams and play in the Spanish Youth Football League, but for John Paul College (JPC) student Riley Gill, this will be the opportunity that will give him his best shot at realising his potential. Already making an impression on the international stage, Riley has signed with Spanish La Liga 2 side Merida AD Youth Squad for the upcoming 2020/2021 season in Europe. With pre-season underway, Riley will fly out this weekend to join pre-season training and will continue his studies at John Paul College by distance education for the rest of the season.

'For the up and coming season, I am really hoping to able to embrace and take in the opportunity that I have been given. I am also hoping to be able to match myself with the quality of European football. My goal is to push and improve myself as a person and as a footballer every single time I step onto the pitch,' says Riley Gill.
Mr Mark Zietsch, Deputy Principal – Operations at JPC, wishes Riley the best of luck as he embarks on this exciting start to his football career.
'To be signed and able to play in the Spanish league at 15 years, is an achievement in itself. Riley's ability, passion and dedication have all lead to his success, and we expect to see him playing one day at the same level as JPC Alumnus, David Ki', praised Mr Zietsch.
David Ki (Class of 2006) attended JPC for Secondary School and went on to play in the English Premier League and represented South Korea in three FIFA World cup tournaments and the 2012 Olympics.
Principal Mrs Karen Spiller was pleased to wish Riley all the very best at a farewell assembly. We will be cheering from the sidelines in Australia for him.
