In this first edition of Future Families for 2022, I would like to wish you a happy, safe, and healthy New Year.
2022 has started as yet another extraordinary year, with the Queensland Premier announcing that the Queensland Government will delay the start of the 2022 school year in Queensland from Monday 24 January to Monday 7 February to avoid opening schools during the predicted peak of the Omicron wave and allow more time for children to receive their COVID-19 vaccinations.
This year will also be extraordinary for John Paul College as we acknowledge 40 years since the College first opened its gates on 26 January 1982. As with all milestone birthdays, this will be cause for great celebration. It is with sadness that we have postponed our Foundation Day assembly, which was due to take place on Friday 28 January. We look forward to celebrating this significant event when it is safer for our community to gather.
I am delighted to share with you the excellent academic results achieved by our graduating Class of 2021. In the second year of the new Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) and the Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR), and amongst a global pandemic, the John Paul College community is proud of the achievements of our students.
ATAR Results
Under the new system, students have the option to withhold their results from the College. Therefore, the statistics below represent 77.2% of our ATAR-eligible students:
- 5.1% of the Year Twelve cohort achieved an ATAR of 99 or above, placing them in the top 1% of the state (highest score acheived by a JPC student was an impressive 99.90)
- 24.5% of the Year Twelve cohort achieved an ATAR of 95 or above, placing them in the top 5% of the state
- 42% of the Year Twelve cohort achieved an ATAR of 90 or above, placing them in the top 10% of the state
- 72.5% of the Year Twelve cohort achieved an ATAR of 80 or above, placing them in the top 20% of the state
- Eleven students will receive recognition from the Premier for achieving six A results.
Pathways and VET Qualifications
John Paul College is an academically non-selective school that offers our diverse community of students an all-round holistic education and a range of pathways to tertiary study and other career paths. We are committed to personalising each student’s learning journey and helping them discover their passions and strengths. As such, we are proud to say that sixty-five of our students graduated with a VET qualification. Thirteen students graduated with a Diploma of Business. Students also earned Certificate II or III qualifications in a wide range of industries.
We wish the graduating Class of 2021 all the best in their future studies and endeavours.
