After a busy Term Two, we look forward to a period of relaxation before the beginning of Term Three. During this period, I have been reflecting on our Alumni and in particular those who will be representing our nation at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

  • Genevieve Gregson (nee LaCaze) (2007): Athletics – past Olympics 2012 and 2016

  • Mitch Larkin (2010): Swimming – past Olympics 2012 and 2016

  • Gareth Hughes (1987): Great Britain Equestrian - past Olympics 2012 and 2016

  • Hsuan-yu (Wendy) Chen (PY2010): Badminton

  • Skye Nicolson (2013): Boxing

  • Adam Kearns (1993): Hockey umpire – past Olympics 2016

  • Georgia Ridler (nee Stewart) (1991): Swimming Psychologist – past Olympics 2016

  • Sarah Graham (2007): Assistant Coach for Gliders (women’s wheelchair basketball team at Paralympics)

As we wish our athlete’s and those in support roles well, I also reflected on all of those Alumni who have represented their home nation in past Olympics as either sporting representatives or support roles and pay tribute to their success:

  • Lara Korhammer (nee Hooiveld) (1989): Swimming 1988

  • Keryn McMaster (2010): Swimming 2016

  • Janine Dwyer (1986): Equestrian Vet 2008 and 2012

  • Sung-yueng (David) Ki (2006): South Korean Football 2012 and 2016

As we commence a new term at JPC, I encourage you to draw inspiration from Olympians. Set goals and focus on them; don’t let anything or anyone deter you. This grit, determination and focus is a skill we all need in all aspects of our lives. Secondly, stay positive - negativity drags us down, it can overwhelm us and hamper our ability to act and achieve. Thirdly, be up for a challenge; or in the Australian vernacular – have a go. Never be afraid to try something and push yourself. After all, expertise must start somewhere.
