Our Year Six students are currently planning and preparing for the Year Six Exhibition, which takes place annually in Term Three. The exhibition is part of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP), our Primary School's curriculum. PYP encourages students to learn to appreciate knowledge, develop conceptual understanding, and hone skills and personal attributes. The programme of inquiry is organised and framed by six transdisciplinary themes:

Who we are
Where we are in place and time
How we express ourselves
How the world works
How we organise ourselves
Sharing the planet.

Past projects have fostered relationships between the student, College and external agencies, leading to change in our local community. Students have made connections with varied organisations and our local community; I have listed a few examples below:

  • Orange Sky
  • Rosies
  • Share the Dignity
  • The Murri School
  • A student interviewed Madonna King; Madonna then spoke to the Year Six girls via Zoom. She shared what she learned about navigating the teenage years and facing gender issues and social media challenges.
  • Another student connected with Ned Heaton and was able to give her classmates a free bamboo toothbrush!

These design thinking skills and a passion for learning and improvement encourage our students to consider and provide solutions to the tough problems we all face. The process involves the use of experimentation and prototyping, learning from mistakes, finding solutions, and the opportunity to collaborate with each other to define the problem and brainstorm ideas. Through this approach, students get a taste of the real-life applications of their education.

We wish our Year Six students well and look forward to sharing their findings soon.
