Farewell Mr Les Horsfall
After 26 years at the College, we bid a happy retirement to Mr Les Horsfall, Director of Administration.
Les started his career in Leeton before taking on the role of Head of Faculty at Quirindi High School from 1989 to 1993. From 1993 to July 1996, he was the Head of Faculty at Tamworth High School before coming to JPC as Subject Area Co-ordinator of a subject called Technical Studies. In 1997, he became the Head of Faculty, which in 2003 became known as Curriculum Manager for Technical Studies.
In 2004, the Director of Administration position became vacant, a role that requires mountains of patience and the ability to manage massive amounts of data, all whilst keeping the campus humming. Together with the College timetable and management of daily covers for absent teachers in the Secondary School, room reschedules, event management including Speech Night, all assemblies and other special whole of College activities, the role is an exceptionally busy one.
For our students, his dulcet tones of ‘School…please stand’ will be missed, and to our teaching and support staff, his rendition of the ‘whoop, whoop’ and ‘Lock…down, Lock...down’ tones during emergency drills will forever be remembered.
Few people will know that Les is quite the DJ. He worked in this role professionally for many years whilst studying. With guest appearances from DJ Les at staff and parent events over the years, it was no surprise when Les took ownership of the co-coveted ‘Dami Im’ life-sized cut-out the College created for her visit a few years ago.
Proud father to two daughters, both John Paul College Alumni, Merryn (2006) and Joanna (2009), doting grandfather to two granddaughters and husband to Suzanne, we now wish Mr Les Horsfall all the very best for his retirement and the opportunity to spend more time with his family.
